The Hotel del Coronado is an iconic landmark just outside the city of San Diego. Built in 1888, the hotel has played host to numerous presidents and illustrious guests. In 1958, "Some Like It Hot" was filmed on site, featuring of Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon silhouetted against the hotel's Victorian architecture and gorgeous beachfront property. When it was announced that there would be a soiree based around the film, we began to imagine how a savvy hotel guest living in the 1920s might find a way to bring a few sips of liquor out to the sand. We settled on a book that opened to reveal a custom-engraved flask, along with several custom recipes by the on-staff bartender.
A living legend for more than 130 years, The Hotel del Coronado is a gem of San Diego history and is a well-loved silhouette on the sand in scenic Coronado, CA. The Hotel Del has played host to celebrities, royalty, U.S. Presidents, and beach-loving guests since it was opened in 1888. Now designated a National Historic Landmark, we were tasked with introducing guests to the dynamic history behind this storied beachfront resort.
